The research group Inclusive Technology and Collective Engagement, led by Prof. Dr. Giulia Barbareschi, explores how we can leverage, adapt, and develop existing and new technologies to promote more equitable societies through direct collaboration with marginalized individuals.
Situated at the intersection of Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Social Development, the group investigates inclusion as an opportunity for innovation—exploring radical new ways of rethinking how technological systems can embrace human diversity and unlock exciting new possibilities.

Current and upcoming projects range from inclusive digital literacy through creative activities, to the use of avatar technologies that foster playful exchanges and mutual understanding among diverse individuals, as well as addressing the underrepresentation and underperformance of AI systems with regard to marginalized groups. The group also examines broader systemic issues in global access to inclusive technologies, with a particular focus on the Global South.
Their research approach is grounded in co-design and participatory methods, ensuring that the perspectives and experiences of marginalized people are central to technological development.

In addition to its scientific work, the group is strongly committed to public engagement and science communication, contributing to greater awareness and inclusive innovation across disciplines.
