Start in the Ruhr area made easy: We help you and your family arrive, discover your new workplace and your new home. Worth knowing at a glance.
The housing market in the Ruhr region is not particularly tight, relatively speaking. Due to the unique highway network, the universities are easily accessible from homes in more rural areas, too. The universities will help with the search for housing, and guest apartments are also often available from the individual universities if you need a roof over your head at short notice.
The Ruhr universities take work-life balance very seriously. For example, the universities cooperate with daycare centers and kindergartens near the university or operate their own childcare services directly on campus (Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg/Essen).
The modern Ruhr region with its more than five million people is green, cosmopolitan and culture-obsessed: old industrial sites have been turned into monuments and serve as venues for national and international cultural and musical events. Approximately 200 museums, 120 theaters, 100 cultural centers and 250 festivals per year make the Ruhr area a vibrant metropolis that attracts many international visitors. Ruhr Tourismus provides an excellent overview.
Your new workplace will be located at three universities at the same time. Of course, one of the universities will be your main workplace – but meetings with cooperation partners and colleagues at the other universities will also be part of your weekly routine. Thanks to the good transport connections and specially provided rooms, you can always hold meetings both remotely and face-to-face.
