The Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security (RC-Trust), located at the universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen, offers AI-related research internships at the intersection of a wide variety of areas such as computer science, statistics, IT security, and psychology.

Research internships at RC-Trust are meant to pursue state-of-the-art research. Internships are targeted at Master and PhD students, but Bachelors students and Postdocs are also welcome, as well as people from the industry intending to learn about academic research. Interns will be part of a dynamic group consisting of world-class researchers of all academic levels, investigating a range of interdisciplinary topics.

Admission to the internship program is highly competitive. Candidates are expected to have an excellent academic record and a strong background in at least one of the areas of RC-Trust: computer science, statistics, psychology, and computer security. Knowledge in interdisciplinary research would also be greatly appreciated.

Living, housing and travel costs are fully funded. Internships usually last twelve to fourteen weeks during the summer break, in which case the deadline for an application is at the end of the previous year. Internships at other times of the year are also possible, in which case the deadline for an application is five months prior to the start of the internship.

Who can apply?

  • All worldwide Bachelor, Master, doctoral and post-doctoral students with a background on any subjects related to AI are welcome. The applicants are expected to have an excellent academic record. The same applies to applicants from the industry.
  • An internship at RC-Trust can potentially be converted into a Bachelor or Master's thesis.
  • Interdisciplinary research background is welcome, but not mandatory.

  • Deadline: for summer internships, the deadline to submit applications is the end of the previous year, i.e. 31/12/2024.
