Since February 1, 2026, Soumik Bhattacharjee has joined the Human-AI Interaction group led by Sven Mayer at RC Trust as a research assistant. With his background in Digital Media and his strong interest in conversational technologies, he further strengthens the group’s interdisciplinary profile.

Soumik’s research focuses on the human-centered design of conversational user interfaces. He explores how multimodal and embodied interaction can make AI systems more intuitive, context-aware, and socially intelligent. His work addresses a central question of modern AI research: How can we design systems that communicate in ways people naturally understand and trust?

In his Master’s thesis, titled “Designing Conversational Agents for Multilingual Realities: A Study of Code-Mixing and Cultural Adaptivity,” Soumik examined how individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds perceive and expect conversational agents to handle code-mixed communication. His research highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity and multilingual awareness in the development of future AI systems – a  topic that is increasingly relevant in globally connected societies.

At RC Trust, Soumik contributes to the broader mission of the Human-AI Interaction group: designing intelligent systems that adapt to human needs and support meaningful interaction between people and machines. His expertise in conversational design and multimodal interaction opens new perspectives for research and collaboration within the Center and beyond.

Beyond his academic work, Soumik is passionate about languages and handicrafts. He enjoys photography and playing badminton – creative and active pursuits that reflect his curiosity and appreciation for diverse forms of expression.

RC Trust warmly welcomes Soumik Bhattacharjee and looks forward to his contributions to research, teaching, and the growing Human-AI Interaction community.
