Sven Mayer explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping human interaction with technology. In his inaugural lecture, he presents a vision for intelligent environments that dynamically support users in their everyday tasks. These environments act autonomously and collaboratively, understanding users, anticipating their needs, and providing proactive support that is reliable and explainable. His research moves beyond traditional user interface concepts toward systems that engage with people transparently and intelligently, while ensuring that users remain in control. By combining adaptive environments, robotic systems, physiological computing, and human-centered AI, he advances the development of trustworthy and anticipatory human–AI interaction.

Since 1 June 2025, Professor Sven Mayer has been strengthening TU Dortmund’s Faculty of Computer Science and the UA Ruhr’s Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security (RC Trust). On 5 November 2025 (16:00–18:00, OH 14, Lecture Hall 23), he will deliver his inaugural lecture Shaping Intelligent Environments through Human AI Interaction.

What sets his work apart

  • From tools to partnership: AI becomes a co-actor that recognizes situations and offers help; attentive rather than intrusive.
  • Adaptive environments: Spaces and devices respond to context and physiological signals, adjusting on the fly.
  • Trust by design: Transparency, accountability, and safety are core.
  • Everyday impact: From learning and work to health and mobility, the aim is tangible relief in daily life.
