Ruhr Innovation Lab enters excellence competition

We are keeping our fingers crossed for Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Technische Universität Dortmund! This week, they are currently running for the title of “University Consortium of Excellence” in the Excellence Strategy.

The Excellence Strategy is a national competition for universities designed to strengthen international competitiveness and promote cutting-edge research at German universities. Selected university consortia will receive up to €28 million per year to bring their ideas to life.

Bochum and Dortmund are applying together as the Ruhr Innovation Lab. With the funding, the two universities aim to create an environment where open thinking can flourish and spark ideas that help shape a sustainable future for our society.

The Ruhr Innovation Lab builds on the strong foundation of the University Alliance Ruhr. For almost two decades, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Technische Universität Dortmund and Universität Duisburg-Essen have demonstrated that by combining their strengths in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer, they can actively shape transformation processes. Outstanding examples of this collaboration include the Research Centers One Health Ruhr, Chemical Sciences And Sustainability, Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security, Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems (RC FEMS), and the College for Social Sciences and Humanities | UA Ruhr, as well as the UA Ruhr Research Academy, BRYCK Startup Alliance, and the three international liaison offices for North America, EasternEurope/Central Asia, and Latin America.

Within the University Alliance Ruhr, we will continue to strengthen the Ruhr Area as an outstanding region for science and innovation together through the Ruhr Innovation Lab.
