The PhD position is within the junior research group "Psychological Aspects of Human-Algorithm Interaction" (f/m/d, No. 344-24). The employment is full-time, although part-time is also possible, starts as soon as possible and lasts 3 years. The workplace is the campus at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The Research Alliance Ruhr is a joint undertaking of the three major universities in the Ruhr area and was initiated by the Ruhr Conference. The four research centers focus on “One Health Ruhr,” “Chemical Sciences and Sustainability,” “Trustworthy Data Science and Security,” and “Future Energy Materials and Systems.” In addition, the Research Alliance Ruhr has established a “College for Social Sciences and Humanities”. The Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security is bringing the expertise of its universities together to bridge the gaps between Psychology & Social Sciences, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Data Science & Statistical Learning, and Cybersecurity & Privacy.

Your main tasks

  • Conduct and publish excellent research within the area of Human-AI-Interactions, calibrating perceived trust and system trustworthiness or balancing people’s understanding and trust perceptions
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with the disciplines located at the Research Center (computer science, statistics, cybersecurity)
  • Networking with teams and institutions within the University Alliance Ruhr (e.g., Social Science Faculties, DFG Research Training School 2535, College for Social Sciences and Humanities, Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS))

Your profile

  • Successfully completed Msc. in psychology, cognitive science, communication science or similar
  • Emerging publication record in human-technology-interaction
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research with computer science/data science/machine learning
  • Motivation and ambition to conduct high-quality research that upholds open-science standards
