Hi! I’m Bianca (she/her), and I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Human Understanding of Machines and Algorithms.
My work focuses on how people around the globe perceive and make sense of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life. I explore the factors that shape public understanding of AI - ranging from media influences to perceptions of machine agency and mind. However, I am particularly interested in the role of large language models (LLMs) in science communication, both as objects of public perception and as research tools for everyone.
At the heart of my work is the belief that understanding AI is not just a technical issue, but a societal one - and that good communication plays a key role in bridging that gap. I’m fascinated by the ways we talk about AI and how those conversations shape what we believe and do.
Previously, my PhD research examined the perceived trustworthiness of scientists and the credibility of science communication online. I completed my doctorate with magna cum laude in 2024 under the supervision of Nicole Krämer at the Department of Social Psychology: Media and Communication, University of Duisburg-Essen. This work laid the foundation for my ongoing interest in how trust is built in complex and uncertain contexts, including our views on AI.
I primarily use quantitative and experimental methods in my work and I am committed to open science practices - aiming for transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility in the research process
