For four editions, the Hardware Reverse Engineering Workshop (HARRIS) has brought the international hardware reverse engineering community to Bochum. Now, the workshop is taking a major step: for the first time, HARRIS is leaving its home base and heading to Asia.
Over the past years, HARRIS has established itself as a focused meeting point for experts from academia, industry, and government. Research talks, practical insights, hands-on formats, and plenty of networking opportunities create a space where specialists can exchange knowledge, address open challenges, and initiate new collaborations in hardware reverse engineering and security.

From Bochum to Singapore

The next edition will take place in Singapore from March 1–3, 2027. HARRIS 2027 will be organized by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National Integrated Centre for Evaluation (NiCE).
The move marks a new stage for a workshop series that has grown out of Bochum while attracting an increasingly international community. The Call for Abstracts and the Call for Tutorials are now open. Abstracts can be submitted in two rounds, by November 15, 2026 and by January 15, 2027; tutorial proposals are due November 15, 2026. Details are available at the HARRIS 2027 worshop page. The international journey is already set to continue: after Singapore, HARRIS will return to Europe in 2028, with the following edition planned at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Helping shape the future of HARRIS

Dr. Steffen Becker has been involved in HARRIS from the beginning. As a co-founder and member of the HARRIS Steering Committee, he helps oversee the long-term development of the workshop series. The committee selects future workshop locations and appoints chairs to the respective organizing committees. For HARRIS 2026 in Bochum, Becker also served as Program Chair.
At RC Trust, Becker leads the Young Investigator Group Human-Centered Hardware Security. His research combines technical hardware security with a human-centered perspective, examining how the people who develop, analyze, and use security technologies can be better considered in their design and application.

About HARRIS

The Hardware Reverse Engineering Workshop (HARRIS) connects the international hardware reverse engineering community across academia, industry, and government. The workshop series was established in Bochum, where its 2026 edition was hosted by the Embedded Security Group at the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (MPI-SP), the Cluster of Excellence CASA, and Ruhr University Bochum. HARRIS provides a forum for research, practical experience, new ideas, and collaboration around methods, tools, and emerging challenges in hardware reverse engineering.
